The living room at No1 French France…………..

The living room at No1 French France…………..

Bonjour……bonjour…………

Well……….. the story of our French France adventure continues……………..

Here are some of the pictures I took of the living room at No1 French France……….when we first saw it just over a year ago.

No1 had been used as a holiday home.

The house had been on the market for quite some time……….(the cobwebs were enormous!!!!)

It all just needed some TLC………..

We rolled up our sleeves……donned our rubber gloves………….and bought a french hoover!!

And then we had a extraordinary stroke of luck……………

We found “Joseph” our gorgeous French builder!

He speaks English……..and he lives next door????????????????

Joseph set to work and painted the beams on the ceiling…………………

He popped some seagrass on the floor to cover those mismactched tiles……..

No1 was starting to look much better……….he advised us that we couldn’t paint the walls.

He explained they are a french render……….and need to be able to breathe……………..

We were delighted with his progress….when we arrived…………………

We set too…………and painted the stairs in Annie Sloan……..

It looked much lighter and fresher……………..

We painted the old beam above the wood burning stove………….1777.

And painted the tiled hearth………………………………….

We black leaded the stove……………………I looked glam in my yellow marigolds!!!!!!

We bought this lovely basket, for 30 euros

I painted and waxed it…………

A few cushions………………..and it made a lovely window seat…………………

We bought this wonderful chest of drawers……with black marble on the top…………….

I painted it with Annie Sloan…………………..and waxed it………..

We also managed to buy a couple of mirrors and paint them……………..

There’s a long way to go…………..but it’s starting to feel much more like home……………

(See the clock…..stopped at one o’clock!!)

What do you think?

xx

  • Hi there, loving your French house, we have been running a B & B in S W France and have just decided to sell as we are going back to the UK to be nearer to family again, but your house does look fab, we did the same with ours , added gallons of Annie Sloan and Farrow and Ball and seagrass flooring, but everybody loved it when it was finished, I will miss France but we can always come back for a holiday! Good luck with the rest of the house x

    • Hi Debbie I have just found your website, your place looks AMAZING…..You aren’t far from No1, we are half an hour from Sarlat.

  • It’s looking amazing, love the painted beam above the wood burner, not sure I would have been brave enough to paint it because its so old but it looks just perfect!! xx

  • Hi there, I’ve just stumbled across this site and the inspirational photos of your French house (No.1). Having just purchased a property ourselves in the Dordogne, I have been looking for decorating ideas and your photos are exactly how I have imagined our old barn could look. I’ve already bought antique white paint to paint the fireplace and staircase so am certainly on the “same wavelength” decor wise!

The floor is currently part chipboard (which was originally under an enormous old rug that just had to go as it was worn out and filthy!) and beautiful dark wood floorboards. We wanted to lighten the room and had initially thought of limestone-type tiles but our builder said tiles will probably be too heavy. What I hadn’t though of was using seagrass – fantastic idea which looks fabulous!

Can you tell me where you purchased the seagrass please? Was it in France or the UK? Our house is about 15 minutes north west of Sarlat so I think it’s in the same region as yours (according to your May 2015 reply anyway!).

Any help you can give would be much appreciated.

    Thanks so much!

    • Hi Sarah, it sounds like you have an exciting project on your hands! Our builder bought the Seagrams for us in France, but I don’t know where from sorry x
